Hi;
Further to Joy Reisinger's message, the Drouin Institute has filmed
all the Quebec Province Catholic Church registries, and probably most
if not all the Quebec Protestant ones up to about 1940. They also
filmed many other parish records where there was a significant French
Canadian population in Ontario and in the USA, even in Detroit prior
to 1780's. Some of the copies were made from the Church registries
and others from documents in Quebec City and Ottawa.
The Drouin Insitute went bankrupt a few years ago, but the films and
the rights thereto, and other documents were bought by a Mr. Pépin
from Montreal, I believe. There are a total of approx. 2,500
microfilms available. One would have to find out if these films are
available through the Inter Library Loan Programme and if so, where to
write for them. The Longueuil and Montreal libraries have a set.
I checked on the Internet for a web site for Mr. Pépin and Drouin
without success. Perhaps other listers (Des?) could provide
information.
Regards
Frank Watters
