Hi all

A number of you asked about the indexes I mentioned so I thought I'd reply
to the list. I'm not sure what is available on-line or from a FHC as I am
one of the lucky ones who lives close to a branch of the Quebec archives.

Catholic marriages
The Drouin and the Loiselle are the two biggest marriage indexes for Quebec.
They cover most parishes in Quebec from the early beginnings(I'm not sure of
the exact date) up to about 1900. The Drouin index is published in a series
of very large books, over 100 in all. The Loiselle index is on microfiche.

Catholic bmd for Montreal and area
There are two indexes, one for Montreal and one for the rural areas around
Montreal. They go up to 1899 and are on microfilm. Rural in those days
included such places as Lachine.

Non-Catholic bmd for Montreal and area
There is one index for Montreal and rural areas and it is on microfilm.

Non_Catholic bmd for Quebec City
This is on microfiche.

Protestant bmd for Beauharnois area
This index is partially available through a volunteer look-up. You can get
the index information as well as the LDS film# of the actual parish
register. Check out www.rootsweb.com/~qchuntin/queries1.htm . The area
covered is basically present day Huntingdon, Chateauguay and Beauharnois
counties.

These are the ones that I have used. If I made any mistakes or if anyone
else knows of other indexes, I'd like to hear from you. Hope this helps.
