Thank you, everyone. Of course no one ever said it was going to be easy. I was looking at Pierre's baptism again and can't help wonder if there is any relation between "Francoise Cyrar" and the Solomon Syrar at the 1838 wedding.

Hopefully the embedded pictures show up. I screen captured the record for the 1818 Francoise. It looks like Joseph Picard and godmother Marthe.

I guess another important question is what everyone else got from the marriage record. I'm sure they mean Francoise was the illegitimate part and she was a resident of that parish.

>From the 1838 marriage record from Family Search: Salomon Syrar

If the pictures work right, we can debate what letters we read.

>From Pierre Latour's Baptism we have: Francoise Cyrar?

I could visualize some sort of scene. When they were married it seems natural someone would represent the groom and we have his father and brother. So... someone might be representing the bride but there is no way to really know their relationship. We have Syrar at the wedding in 1838 and Pierre's mother is "Cyrar" on his baptism about 10 months later.

I have no idea where they get Franck.

Here's a slim possibility:
Francoise (illegitimate) b 08 Sep 1818, bp same day at L'Assomption. Godfather Antoine Picard & Angelique Deslande {? - hard to read} Ancestry: L'Assomption 1818 image 23

Perhaps those names I saw were Picard as the P's in those days were strange looking.

On Pierre's baptism in 1839 at Lavaltrie mother's name is Francoise Cignas {no way do I

On Marie's baptism in 1841 there is no surname for Francoise.
On Moise's baptism in 1843 mother's name is Francoise - either Girand/Girard or
irand/Cirard. Again, no sign of Pepin or Lachance

So, unless all those online people have a better source I would not name her Pepin dit
achance.

Does anyone know how to interpret the "illigitime" part of the record? The record from Ancestry says "Francoise illigitime minuere residente" but FamilySearch's says "Francoise minuere illigitime residente." Does this mean Francoise is illegitimate or her residence in the parish is the illegitimate part?
The next question is how would you search for information on her? Vennance and Francoise had about 11 children and their baptismal records say what looks like "Pepin" and a family tree I saw online said "Pepin Lachance." Then there is the matter of when she was born. All I can really confirm is she is from Canada. A newspaper clipping from 1907 says she was 93 but that I do not know. I have US Census records for them and the most consistent thing is she is about 1 year older than her husband and he was born in 1819. Additionally, the 1900 US Census says "Oct 1818."
Would it be a simple matter of looking on Ancestry for anyone named Francoise Pepin born around 1818 and seeing if they are the product of an illegitime union? ha ha
