Hi Renee,
Holy cow! I was just reading yesterday about the Jesuits and the horrible
torture they endured for their faith. And here we have my 7th great
grandparents & the Jesuit priest, captured by the Iroquois. The thought of
this kind'a takes my breath away. Well, the good news is, they lived to have
children and I am humbled by that.
Thank you so much. This is very, very interesting.
Carol

Hi Carol
Here is what it's about
This is what I have in my FTM about that couple
The husband, taken captive by the Iroquois while bringing supplies for the
King (that is, for the royal garrison) to Fort Frontenac in the spring of
1688, and the wife, also taken captive by the Iroquois the following year,
finding each other among the Oneonta, contracted marriage in the presence of
Father Millet, himself a captive.
The groom, captured by the Iroquois while carrying merchandise for the king
to Fort Frontenac in the spring of 1688, and the bride, in the following
year
also captured by the Iroquois, finding themselves both among the Oneidas
[one
of the Five Iroquois Nations], they contracted marriage together, in the
presence of [Jesuit] Father Millet, also a captive
Good luck
Renee

May I please have a translation of this marriage record? The word Iroquois
is mentioned and I don't know if that pertains to an area of habitat or a
tribe of Indians. The record is on the right side, 1st marriage from the
top.
Marriage: Sept. 9, 1694, St-Anges, Gardiens, Lachine, Montreal, QC Mathieu
Perrin Dit Gareau & Marie Jeanne Pilette
Thank you for the help.
Carol
