Subject: [Q-R] Having trouble making out a name in the 1851 census
Date: Fri, 02 Sep 2011 23:56:45 -0400
Hi all,
I think I've identified two of the families in my file on the same page
of the 1851 census. There is another name in between these two
families, but I can't quite make it out and was wondering if anybody
else might be able to. The census page is available at:
<http://search.ancestry.com/Browse/View.aspx?dbid=1061&path=Canada+East+%28Quebec%29.Montr%c3%a9al+County.Montr%c3%a9al+City.128>
If I'm right, Lines 34 through 37 are for James Redmond, his wife Jane
Scally, their daughter Ellen Redmond, and their daughter Mary Redmond
(who was born in Montreal in 1851).
If I'm right, Lines 39 through 42 are for Paul McClean, his wife Rose
Scally (who I believe to be Jane's sister), their daughter Catherine
McLean and a son I didn't know they had by the name of William.
The name I can't quite make out is the one on Line 38; I'm trying to
figure out if she could be related to the other two families. I'm
wondering if she could be the mother of Jane and Rose. Jane is known to
be the daughter of Ellen/Helen McMullen and Patrick Scally; I believe
that Rose is another daughter as well. The way I read the name on Line
38, it looks like "Ggm Carly mullen", which would not seem to refer to
Ellen/Helen McMullen. But I really can't make it out clearly. Can
anybody else?
-- Thanks,
Mary
