Hi all,

Un scieur de long is someone (normally takes 2 persons, one on top of the
scaffold and the other one on the ground) who will use a big saw to cut a
tree and make boards that can be used for building, bridges, etc.

As you understood, (scieur) means the action of sawing a something such as a
board and the word (long) in that context is because the action is to cut a
tree on his lenght of it (and producing many boards out of it depending of
the tickness of each board)! which in this case is quite long to do the job
:)

You can peak at pictures of scieur de long on this URL

If this link doesn't work, just type scieur de long on Google and
search the images.

Have fun

I looked it up in a French/English dictionary and it said scieur/sawyer and
de long with it seemed to say reaper. Clyde
