I know that at some point about 1800-1806 Elijah Doty m. Mary Gay. We know she
was French, and I am certain she was French Canadian as it is said Elijah came
from either Canada or Vermont. They are said to have married in New York State.
It likely would have been a Protestant marriage, but not necessarily as the
Doty's tended to marry into whatever was the church affiliation of their
spouses.
Elijah died in 1813 in the War of 1812, and Mary died the following year. 4
kids, Hiram, Harriet Louisa, Ira and Sally Ann.
I am going to check Drouin records at Ancestry, but perhaps someone in this
group has some info for me. Not holding my breath, however.
