Could someone read the following and see if I have the gist of the
information? Re: Jean Hélie dit Breton, my first ancestor to New
France

C'est probablement au cours des années 1665, 1666, sous l'égide de
l'Intendant Jean Talon que notre ancetre immigre au Canada où il dut
faire ses preuves de colon chevronné, apte à obtenir pour lui un lot à
defricher et suffisamment grand pour y élever une famille.
Ordinairement tout nouveau immigré au pays devait louer ses services à
un maître colon pour une période de trois ans.

He probably came in the years 1665 or 1666 under an obligation to
l'Intendant Jean Talon. He owed his services for a period of 3 years
in order to get enough money for a place large enough for a family.

Can anyone tell me who this Intendant Jean Talon is? He is also
mentioned in Doris Faucher's book Le Québécois: The Virgin Forest.
