Subject: [Q-R] Cemetery Report:June 15,2010 Holy Sepulchre Cemetery "Final Chapter"
Date: Sat, 19 Jun 2010 09:46:02 EDT

A day after returning from vacation in Vermont for a week, I decided to
head back to Rochester and Holy Sepulchre Cemetery and yes, I finally finished
it.
While in Vermont I saw the stone quarry where a good share of all cemetery
monument stone comes from and "Rock of Ages" where they make the stone into
beautiful cemetery monuments. You could watch the stone carvers and
artists at work. And while in the area I visited Hope Cemetery where they have
some fantastic monuments that are far from common. How about an automobile
carved from one block of stone? Its there amongst many others.

Out the big door at 4:34AM @ 56F/13C.
Landed at Tim's on Lake Ave. Rochester at 5:56Am, dry and sunny and
59F/16C. Enjoyed my eye opener of a large coffee and a great muffin.
Arrived at the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery at 6:14AM and got right to it. I was
not expecting to finish this place today. It has fooled me in the past how
long it would take and today was no exception. Its so heavily concentrated
with burials.

Just had a chat with two of the cemetery workers. I found out that the area
along the Dewey Ave end of the cemetery isn't just decoration, that's
where the good Catholics buried all the unmentionables, derelicts, prostitutes,
poor etc. Communal grave and unmarked.........oh well, nothing new.

I'm now done with all the ground burials and will take a look at their
second mausoleum which happens to be a two story building with an elevator. It
was humongous and all the rooms have motion detector lighting. It is an
awesome structure. But I found no one of interest in here.

Its now 11:52AM and I am finished with this "Land of No Tomorrows"
Today I walked an even 7 miles in here and its now 63F/24C. And picked up
78 flags.
I vacated this place at 12:10PM. 10 days to complete this 332 acre cemetery
and I got to say it is a gem as far as condition and care go.
Here are the total stats for this cemetery:

Total amount of time to do this whole cemetery since late last Fall till
now: 10 days.

Acres: 332

Population: 330,000+..................and still dying.................

Animals seen & photographed: deer, geese, chip monks, hawks, few grass
snakes, turkeys and lots of different birds.

Condition of this massive "Dead Estate" as close to perfect as you could
get.

The people that worked there all seemed friendly. As well as all the dead
folks that are there :) . < I always get along well with them.

Encountered no spirits nor ghosts.

1st trip to Holy Sepulchre Cemetery was on Nov 22, 2009. 5.5 miles & 9
flags.

2nd trip Nov. 29, 2009 9.5 miles & 9 flags.

3rd trip March 28, 2010 10.9 miles & 33 flags.

4th trip April 11, 2010 11.7 miles & 378 flags.

5th trip April 18, 2010 12.9 miles & 20 flags.

6th trip April 27, 2010 16.3 miles & 11 flags.

7th trip May 3, 2010 14.3 miles & 118 flags.

8th trip May 10, 2010 18.9 miles & 111 flags.

9th trip May 24, 2010 15.3 miles

10th and final trip 7 miles & 78 flags.

Total walking 122.3 miles to get through this entire place.
Picked up 758 flags in 10 days.
As for driving miles, it totaled 1,950 miles for ten trips to Rochester.
Damn, no wonder I got tired !

12:53PM brings me to Webster Rural Cemetery on Ridge Rd. & Holt Rd. just
off of Rt. 104 and its 64F/25C.

Samuel Sprague 1868-1926.

" Here lies Matthew Mudd

When he was alive he was Mudd
But now he's only dirt."

Now here's something you might get a kick out of. I read a lot and one
thing that catches my attention when there's a hot topic is Deep Genealogy.
What I mean by that is origins. Not just the 100-400 year span all of us
strive for in our family trees. Anthropologists, archeologists, historians are
always getting into fights and arguments about origins and how people got
where etc. I like reading the final arguments and after years of fighting and
trying to prove their thoughts and ideas, what's the results. Usually not
the stuff that makes the newspaper or nightly news. But, something they
finally came up with that all those people have been working on around 20
years now and using DNA testing etc. They have undisputed proof. I find this
startling, interesting and very historic and yet it never made the news.
Remember the lost tribe of Isreal? They found them and you'll never guess
where or who they are. American Cherokee Indians, weird eh ! They all carry the
"Jew Gene" as the scientists refer to it. There is a ton of things to
report about this finding but the main spotlight is they proved the Cherokees
are the lost tribe through DNA testing.
One of the easiest source materials to find this in is "Ancient American
Magazine" subtitled "Archeology of the Americas Before Columbus" issue
Vol.14, No. 86. That's the one on the news stand right now. For this issue
just about the whole magazine is devoted to this subject.
< Now there's some Deep Genealogy...................
