The godmother of Pierre Martin was not Colette CHIGNARD, nor, to my knowledge did anyone read Pierre Martin's godmother's name in error.

From

Scan down to
Gail Moreau-DesHarnais's article and her transcription of the original record that is copied there for all to see, and her translation:

Aoust 1630
Le Jeudy premier Jour d'aoust pierre fils d 'abraham
Martin & Marguerith Langlois n.p. p hothon (hohon) (thothon) [sic] & helaine delamare

On Thursday the first day of August [1630] pierre, son of Abraham
Martin and Marguerith Langlois The godparents [were] p . Hothon [sic] and
Helaine Delamare.

Pierre Martin's godmother was Helaine Delamare.

For awhile, it seems, Fichier Origine may have recorded, in error, In a personal communication to me from Gail a few years ago:

"(28 September 1616) birth act listing Abraham Martin as the father of a son
Jehan.  However, the mother was not named.  The godfather
was Jehan Filie and the GODMOTHER, not mother, was Collette  Chignart.  The
record was from St-Jacques de Dieppe."

I do not know who recorded the erroneous information, but it has been corrected, as far as I can tell.

Hello Bob in Monterey,

Colette CHIGNARD was the godmother of one of Abraham MARTIN and
Marguerite LAGLOIS's sons born in France.  I suspect someone who did not
read French properly saw her name in Pierre MARTIN's baptismal record,
and seeing no other female name concluded she must be the mother.
Others picked up on this, did not check the source, and the error has
since gone viral...

Based on the available documentation, and from what circumstances we can
gather of his life, Abraham MARTIN was only married once, and that was
to Marguerite LANGLOIS.

There is no evidence to link him to Anne MARTIN at all.

As for a Jean MARTIN, please see below in my previous posts, you'll find
that Jean was the son of Abraham MARTIN and Marguerite LANGLOIS.

Cheers,

Mona
