Philomene and Elise and Eliza are also alternatives sometimes for the same
person. I even have an Isabelle-Elizabeth who is called Lizzie in two of
her children's church marriage records.
Also, when searching by name, try Elisabeth with an 's' and also with a 'z'.
This is just to confuse us and make the 'hunt' more challenging !

Subject: [Q-R] Isobell = Elizabeth interchangeable ?
Thanks for your help Linnie
I found Thomas Boyes family on 1852 census.... it was transcribed under
I have a Question would Isobell translate to Elizabeth are these 2
I have an Elizabeth that died in 1831 daughter of James & Ellen Boyes I have
nothing else on an Elizabeth I do have a birth of a daughter Isabell to them
in 1803 and wonder now if they are the same person.
example I have a Daniel who was as called both Danny & Donald
Daniel and Donald are sometimes, but not always, interchangeable in Scotland
because Domhnall, the Gaelic version of Donald, may be Anglicized as Daniel.
These two names are here therefore classified as Lesser Synonyms
Thank you for your help
