I found some recipies here for gleasons.
http://www.recipelink.com/mf/1/4740
They seem to be a square noodle/dumpling kind of thing, and
most of them seem to be served with chicken but a couple
mentioned beef. All of the writers said their families were
French Canadian. One said they pronounced it Gleasont.
I found a recipe for Gorton in a RI cookbook. One day, after
reading some list messages, I realized the Gorton was Creton.
Pronounced Gorton in Woonsocket, RI & vicinity.
If someone can read the recipes above, maybe they will know
these things by another name than Gleasons?

| And just today I (finally!) found the recipe for what we called "goton".
No
| wonder I couldn't find it ... most people seem to call it "creton" and
this
| recipe was for "Gorton".
|
| But it sounds just the way I remember it -- ground pork (mother ground a
| pork butt), onions, cinnamon, cloves, salt -- and pepper all cooked down
to a
| delicious sandwich spread. Great with relish on rye bread.
|
| I'm guessing that in the old days it was cooked with a lot more of the
fat
| because mother said that they stored it in crocks with the thick layer of
fat
| that rose to the top and it would keep all winter in the cold. We never
had
| any left for that long that we could test that out!
