Well, with all that's been said, let me add that Sorenson Molecular
Genealogy Foundation (SMGF)
does *"free"* DNA testing. They ask only that you submit a 5-generation
genealogy tree/pedigree
with the test. Since they are the only lab providing the test kit, it is
prepared to a standard, so
their results are consistent.
If you want to have DNA tests done for your family, you will need to either
be a male or have a male
in your family tree consent to provide the sample.
SMGF has recently partnered with GeneTree. When they first entered into
this partnership, past
participants were offered the opportunity for free mitochondrial DNA
testing. The window on that
opportunity closed on November 23, 2007.
However, you can get more information for future offers, updates, and
newsletters from SMGF at: https://www.smgf.org/account/register.jspx
If you would like to ask questions about SMGF and DNA/ mtDNA/autosomalDNA
testing, you
can send an e-mail to them directly at: .
If you need more information about GeneTree, that link is:
http://www.genetree.com.
You will not get a printout of the results; however, you can "match" your
family tree to others
in your line who have provided their DNA and family tree. I'm still waiting
to see if I can find
other Faucher/Kame family members in the database. Apparently, I'm the
first in my line
to submit the test.
As I said, the test done by Sorenson Labs is "FREE" -- but if you have
"ANY" doubts about
submitting your DNA, I'd suggest that you check things out first.
Best,
