Ok, thanks. It seems lake travel was the likely mode of transportation considering the time frame and area.


If they came by means that were controlled (i.e. via a port, and on a ship)
then their immigration was typically logged, but that wasn't a consistent
practice from port to port and it certainly wasn't controlled.

My ancestors lived alternatively in Prescott, Ontario and Ogdensburg, New
York. When the St. Lawrence froze over in the winter, they might as well
have been the same town.
