Hi Mel (and All:)

>Did you ever find out what kind of nuts these were?

>Remember those green tennis ball sized nuts I found in a prior cemetery?,
well, I thought I just found more of the same. These are similar but
different. A bit smaller than a tennis ball, same green colour but the outside is
covered with thorns such as you would find on a rose bush. I brought one
home. Over the weeks, the green thorn covered green skin cracked and shrunk and
finally on its own three, I guess?>, nuts came out of it. They were brown in
colour. The previous one I had found didn't have the thorns................

I think the nut Bill found could be from a Buckeye Tree which is a relative of the Chestnut and Horse Chestnut trees.... I have one in my yard and his description fits it to a tee...:-)

If you go to "Google" and type in Buckeye Tree Nuts, you will find a picture and description....

Cheers,

Elizabeth

PS: The Buckeye Tree is the Ohio State Tree.....and our Ohio State University Football team is known as the Buckeyes......:-(
