This is in response to Mona Rainville's post:
You certainly have stretched the facts ! as I found them several years ago. For all we know, Marie-Anne Hus could have been terminally ill or psychologically handicapped, and was staying in a sanatarium at Sarenac Lake. I, for one, do not believe that Jean-Baptiste Gouin was the bigamist you portray him to be with two families at once! All three children in Sorel were Charlotte's kids, not Marie-Anne's! Obviously, something tragic had to have happened for him to leave his first wife in such a remote location, and cohabitate with the mother of his children. We do not know the complete reasons why this first marriage went south, so we should not fabricate imaginative stories to explain why.
If you'll notice, too, he MUST have been a man of some moral Catholic principal since he only married Charlotte at St-Gabriel-de-Brandon, WELL AFTER Marie-Anne died. For me, who researched this family so many years ago and even wrote an article on them for Je Me Souviens (AFGS), you have unfortunately twisted the facts into something I believe NEVER happened as you have interpreted them. I don't believe Jean had a "summer" and "winter" bride as you put it, at the same time. That is not what the records are saying, and I know, as I was the one who originally found them. Please, all you genealogists out there, interpret the records with some common sense, and as they are, not with a creative imagination borne of frustration at not finding any answers or further clues. Most times, the records will tell the story of just what happened. And when they don't, we shouldn't make up a story to make people believe they are telling us more than they are. Some lines will have a dead end.
Why are people afraid of that fact?
