Just another thought >> there is another family of Gouin's living in Montreal area at the same time. They were connected to Mathurin Gouin's line. Wonder if this is where the confusion comes in?

That Elizabeth de RAINVILLE cannot be the one. She died in 1702.
Furthermore, the Elizabeth de RAINVILLE shown is married to a Jean-Baptiste GOUIN, not to a Sébastien. For the time being, I still consider them to be different men.
