It sometimes implies that it is a second marriage for the person. Usually will have widow/woidower of deceased spouce listed.

Another possibility person who gave Marriage info to priest didn't have it. (she was young orphan etc)

Sometimes you can get a good idea by looking at the baptisimals of children. Who stood for their children? Who did they stand for? (In LA during Spanish rule the priest would sometimes list Paternal & Maternial grandparents). Ideal situration parents siblings stand for their early children then older children. Ocassionally cousins they grew up with. Happy chart drawing.

Can anyone on the list tell me what it means if a wife's Parents are left
out
of the Marriage Register. I'm looking for the Parents of Therese Caya who
married Hyacinthe Lahaie 8, Jan. 1822 at Batiscan.

Don was nice enough to send me the Marriage but no Parents appear for her.
The name might originally have been Caillia. I'm helping a close friend in
our
Genealogical Society. After 3 years of looking she finally found her G.G.
Grandmother
Elize St-Arnaud's Mother who was Therese Caya. For years she has been looking
for a Therese Payment as somebody somewhere posted that as her Mother. This
lady is from her 2nd Marriage to Joseph St-Arnaud.
