Thanks Darlene
Yes I have been to most of the church's mentioned. Actually since you live
in the area what has happened to St Charles church since it was closed? Such
a shame. I have wondered since all of my family has died out I don't go
back anymore.
Actually some on the list might like this little story. When my
grandfather Philbert GOUIN died, at his funeral the priest said that grandpa always
gave his confession in French. The priest told him "I don't understand French"
and grandpa answered " that's OK God does." Love that man.

Jan:

The first Catholic Church was St. Mary's. It's earliest records in the
Church
Books start in 1861. Then St. Charles started in 1894 & St. Francis Alverno
about a year later. St. Lawrence was a short while later. Then Sacred Heart
Church in Riggsville which took over the most of the Polish later.

The Irish here wanted the Services in St. Mary's in English & all the French
wanted them in French so all their squabbling led to St. Charles (The French
Church) being built. There were several Irish Families who were in Business
& became quite prosperous.

There is also a Durocher Family here which are not the same Surname as
my Desrosiers-Deroshia. A Completely different Family.
