Two different lines...
PROVOST in English sounds like PROH-VOH-ST
PROVOST in French sounds like PRAH-VOH (rhymes with know)
PREVOST in French sounds like PRAY-VOH (rhymes with know)
We roll the R's... And the final ST is silent.
The earliest PROVOST I have in my database is
Nicolas PROVOST Anne Ste-AMAND
Jan 09 1684 La Perade, Champlain, Quebec
Anne M. DAUDELIN
Nicolas DAUDELIN Anne M. GIRARD
The earliest PREVOST I have in my database
Pierre PREVOST Charlotte VIEN-VIE
Nov 03 1644 Quebec, Quebec
Marie Olivier MANITOUABE8ICH-SYLVESTRE
Roch MANITOUABE8ICH Koeou OUTCHIBAHABANOU
