service, it also explains the requirements and the time frame whereby US
citizens must have a passport for re-entry into the USA:

Hi Shirley. I'm not sure about this, but I think a passport is necessry to
get back into the States from Canada. Not too late to apply. Go to one of
the larger Post Offices (usually not in small towns) and they will give you
an application and ask you for $100.00, take your picture and give you the
passport right then. If you send away, it takes longer.
