"Prior to modern medicine, doctors were pretty much stymied as to both the
cause and the cure for illnesses that would take little more than a ten day
course of antibiotics to cure today. But, back in the old days, doctors thought
up cures that smacked of insanity and were often deadlier than the disease
they were trying to combat. For instance, in Shrevesport, Louisiana, they
burned tar and let the thick, black, oily smoke fill the air in belief that it
would keep yellow fever away, not realizing the carcinogenic effect of such a
pollutant. Covering patients with leeches, giving them repeated enemas, and
draining pints of blood, although thought to cleanse the system, often hastened
death because the methods caused weakness and dehydration."

"Take ten enemas and call me in the morning....................better
yet...........don't call me..............LOL)
