Hello Jolene:

I looked through the 1881 Canada Census of Kent County Ontario and of Kent
County New Brunswick which is available at www.familysearch.org

For a couple being married about 1840, it is likely that they would have
been born 20-25 years before. So I looked for John Smith married to a Jane
and been born around 1815 - more or less. Of course this could be quite
wrong because you don't have any additional information but it might be a
place for you to begin your searches.

This is what I located:

Household: SMITH - (Kent County, Ontario)

Neither of the above have sons named George or Joseph. I'm guessing you
meant that the sons were born in 1854 and 1863 - not 1954 and 1963.

There is a George in New Brunswick, as follows:

Hello Jolene:

There is a Kent Co., in New Brunswick and also in Ontario, but there is not
a Kent county in Quebec Province.

This site will give you information on what is available in New Brunswick:
http://www.afhs.ab.ca/registry/regnb_death.html

and this one for Ontario:
http://www.afhs.ab.ca/registry/regon_census.html

The most recent Canada census that is available is for 1911.

Cheers!

Doreen
