There is a real distinction between genealogy & history.

Many people do genealogy and only want their lineage where
others are willing to pay for transcripts of wills, deeds, etc. to add some
history to their family tree. As Gary stated, there is a cost for this
additional information., but he didn't mention that a lot of time can be
spent in Court Houses, libraries, etc. searching & transcribing such items.
Time is a valuable commodity too and most of us have too little to spare.

The Quebec list is one of the best I have ever seen for finding ancestors
and
correct lineages for those with Quebec ancestory. They get enquiries from
around the world. They provide the informatio FOR FREE .

We need to thank the people who look-up and answer these queries more often.

time looking up answers to our questions.
