Today might or might not be be the anniversary of the birth in 1574 of Anne
of Denmark, queen to James VI. Nobody is entirely sure of the true date of
Anne's birth - it is equally possible she was born on 14 October. She married
James in Kronborg Castle, Norway in 1589 although James wasn't actually present
until a second ceremony three months later. Anne was generally regarded as
being a bit on the dim side and a woman of extravagant tastes, spending
fortunes on masque balls, buildings and clothes.
