I so enjoyed that poem. I went online and found this site with several poems by William Henry Drummond from "The Habitant and Other French Canadian Poems". One thing that is odd though, when I try to read them aloud to reproduce the accent, it seems to sound more Swedish than French! After I read a few lines I have to laugh at myself and my Scandinavian accent! "Le Vieux Temps" was especially enjoyable.

My Ontario born mother used to recite that poem with her very best French
accent (?) and continued to do so right up to her 100th birthday party. I
have the book called "Habitant Poems" by William Henry Drummond who wrote in
dialect. Another good one is "The Wreck of the 'Julie Plante', A Legend of
Lac St. Pierre" and this and others can be found online.
Drummond's poems are a great way to introduce children to poetry.
