1781: The Mission San Pedro Y San Pablo De Bicuner is established, in modern
Imperial County, California, on January 7, 1781. It is where the Anza Trail
crosses the Colorado River. This is land claimed by the Quechan (Yuma)
Indians. After unsuccessful talks, the Quechans attack and take over the Mission
and surrounding pueblo. Some sources say this happened in 1780.
