I have an ancestor (my great great grandfather) who was a wall till I learned
the name on my documents (Nestor) was in actuality Anastase. Someone
apparently transcribed the name verbally and it was written phonetically...

Speaking of family nicknames, my uncle in his 50s is still called Pete short
for pete-two(not sure of the spelling) which I was told was a version of small
one. He was the youngest of 4 and a neighbor I guess used to call him the
small one or pete-two... bet he got some ribbing on that as a kid. His actual
name is William so obviously it has nothing to do with his name, but many only
know him as "Pete" so someday....

Joe.
