Toronto surgical team helps Afghan boy
Last Updated Fri, 01 Oct 2004 23:27:48 EDT
TORONTO - Djamshid Popal from Afghanistan was listed in critical condition
Friday following a six-hour operation.
Nine-year-old Popal had four heart valves replaced and one repaired at
Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children. He'll remain in hospital for several days
under close supervision.

He's expected to recover fully from the operation and return home to
Afghanistan.
Doctors waited several months for Popal to gain weight before surgery could
be performed.
He and his father came to Toronto in July.
