March 18, 1845 Fort Wayne, Indiana
" John Chapman, 70, known as "Johnny Appleseed," died. He had made a trip to
an orchard to repair damages and caught a chill, which led to fatal pneumonia.
For fifty years, Chapman had traveled the American frontier, planting apple
orchards by the thousands."
