Lorretta L. Hughes
June 5, 1917 -- April 18, 2004
PUTNAM -- Lorretta L. Hughes, 86, of Breault Street, Putnam, died Sunday in
the Ma- tulaitis Nursing Home in Putnam.
She was the wife of the late Merrill C. Hughes, he died in 1977. She was
born June 5, 1917 in Putnam, daughter of the late Raoul and Aglai (Guindeon)
Latour.
She worked in Housekeeping at Day Kimball Hospital in Put- nam for over 23
years, retiring in 1979. She was a communicant of St. Mary Church of the
Visita- tion in Putnam.
She enjoyed cooking for her family and embroidering. She had made her home
in Putnam all her life and was a member of the Putnam Senior Citizens and
the Royal Travelers; she was a former member of the American Legion Ladies
Auxiliary.
Her greatest love was her fam- ily, spending time with her grand- children
and great-grandchildren. She leaves two sons-Richard Hughes and his wife
Doris of Do- tham, LA; James Hughes of Wind- sor; a daughter-Merrilyn
Garceau and her husband Robert of Put- nam; a sister-Jeannette LaCasse of
North Hampton, MA; grandchil- dren-Roberta Bablitz of Thomp- son; Michael J.
Garceau of White- house Station, NJ; James Gar- ceau of Pomfret; Elizabeth
Hay- den of Killingly; Janice Deskus of Willington. She was predeceased by a
sister-Anna Lamothe.
A prayer service will be Thurs- day at 10:30 AM at the Smith & Walker
Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam, followed by com- mittal service in
Grove Street Cemetery. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 6:00 to 9:00 PM
at the Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Day Kimball
Hospital Devel- opment Fund, P.O. Box 632, Put- nam, CT 06260.
