Zoe, usually spelled in French with an accent on the e (either Zoë or Zoé),
is a given name by itself, not a short form for a longer name. It is a Greek
word, meaning "Life". An ancient poet wrote an ode we learned in Greek class
in secondary school. The closing line was "Zoë mou, sas agapô" (My life, I
love thee!)
