Frances et al:
I just *knew* this was a great list...Gigi said it was and she's right.
First I got a terrific accent chart...thanks for that and now Frances
responds to my inquiry.
However Frances...perhaps you misread my note; I am looking for the
siblings of Ferdinand & Angele (Angeline) In 1881 they were tucked away
in Belleville, Ontario. I was lucky because my Dad had told me of his
grandparents who are buried in St James RC cemetery in Belleville
Ontario..with a huge stone, names etc. *But*...I had trouble finding
them in a record, until I looked in the Assesment Rolls for the city of
Belleville Ontario...where I found them with their name spelled as Gumie
or something similar. Obviously the person writing it down just
scribbled what they thought they heard. Ferd & Angeline spoke French in
an anglo community...my Grandfather & his siblings spoke both...sadly
the French language got lost from Gramp to me! Although I keep on
trying!
Many thanks Frances for your efforts...I do appreciate it. Just to
recap...Ferdinand Dumesnil was born 9 Mar 1834 in Coteau du Lac, Quebec;
parents, Francois Dumesnil and Marie Louise Morineau. Angleline or
Angele LeGault was born 27 March 1829 in St Clet, Quebec. parents,
Joseph Legault and Marie Vande(t) They married in Notre Dame Montreal,
12 Aug 1857. Moved to Bellevile Ontario ca 1860 or later. Had four
children, Angus (correct) 1861; Joseph 1863; William (my GF) 1865 and
Mary Jane 1868 All born in Ontario.
I have both the Dumesnil (dit Ladoceur) and Legault (dit Deslaurier)
lines traced back to France, but I would love to find the Siblings of
both Ferdinand from Coteau du Lac and Angeline from St Clet.. It may be
an impossible task...but, I am hopeful that perhaps someone else is also
searching this line and is perhaps a Cousin. Thanks again Frances. Don
