Hi All!
Thank you (Merci), for any help you can give. People like Lucie and Renee are trying to help and I really do appreciate it! Let me back up and tell you what I know and what could possibly be wrong information.
Starting with my father Louis E. Mercier. I absolutely know that he was born in Chicago on 6/4/1897. I absolutely know that his father's name was Charles E. Mercier and that he was born in 1862 and was supposed to come from Montreal or possibly near Montreal, Quebec. (which could take in Beauharnois)
That birth-baptism document for Charles was sent by an archives in Quebec but it could be wrong. If it is correct, then he had to be born in Beauharnois because the priest-Joseph Archambault signed it and I called the Catholic Church in Quebec and they said that he was a priest there at St. Timothee from 1837 to 1876.
On the other hand, if they sent me the wrong document for another Charles E. Mercier, then possibly my Charles was born in (or very near) Montreal. How or who would I find on this site, or in Quebec, to search for a Charles E. Mercier born there?
Again, I really appreciate your help. My dad (Louis) had a real tough life but persevered, as his mom Mattie died of cancer when he was only 13, and his dad Charles died when he was only 15. He ran away from his aunt Francis' house, stowed away on a ship and was allowed to be a cabin-boy, then a cook, and finally a sailor. He was a wonderful dad and I'm trying desperately now to do him and his (my) ancestry justice by finding their story and history. But it is soooo hard and discouraging at times.
Thank you (Merci beaucoup), again! Jerry :-)
