Anybody know where the surname MEAR came from? That's how my family spells it
and it has a variety of spelling variations in US records. Take your pick! I
do not know where the name comes from. I would guess somebody by that name in
France, emigrated to Quebec, and then some came to the US. Supposedly my gg
grandfather, Jacque/Jacob MEAR came from the Eastern US, his parent being
born in Canada. I think NY was one possibility, but so far, no one has found
much information on him prior to the 1850s. I think he was born about 1830. I
don't have anything on siblings or parents but since we are not even sure
where he was born, that does create a bit of a problem. Lord knows how the
surname was spelled out east. In Illinois, I have seen MEER, MEAR, MIRE, MEIR
and I have lost count as to what else.

Any suggestions?

Debbie

May the love of freedom always ring;
it has brought us this far,
it proclaims who we are,
and together we sing,
"Let freedom ring."
