J Henri Chet Chamberland, age 83, husband of Bernice (Lapointe)
Chamberland of Elizabeth Circle, Sandy Hook, died unexpectedly Wednesday,
October 10, 2001 at his home.
He was born in Southbridge, Massachusetts, May 22, 1918, a son of the late
Henry and Mary L. (Ethier) Chamberland. A resident of Southbridge, MA most
of his life, Mr. Chamberland was the longtime manager of the
Sherwin-Williams Paint Store in Sturbridge, MA. and also was a former Major
League Umpire. He was a longtime college and high school Baseball Umpire and
Basketball Referee. Mr. Chamberland was a member and past president of the
Southbridge Lions Club.
A U.S. Army Veteran with the rank of Staff Sergeant, Mr. Chamberland
participated in the D-Day Normandy invasion and was awarded the Silver Star
and the Bronze Star with clusters.
For the past three years Mr. Chamberland was a resident of Newtown where he
was an avid golfer and an active member of the Newtown Country Club. He was
a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, Robert Chamberland and a
daughter, Nancy A. Belanger, both of Sandy Hook; 2 grandchildren, Jeffrey
and Susan Belanger. Also survived by sisters and a brother in Massachusetts.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday, October 13 at St. Hedwigs
Church, Southbridge, MA. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Southbridge.
There are no calling hours. Arrangements by the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main
St., Newtown, CT.
