Feuillant is a proper name (as your second post indicates) and is almost
certainly the name of your grandfather's commanding officer, although at
what level is not clear. The way in which it's presented suggests that
Feuillant is someone we should know of, which in turn suggests one of the
higher command levels. Your grandfather's rank, if you know it, might give a
hint as to the level.

What is needed is an Order of Battle for the French forces during the war.
This should provide the names of all of the officers down to the regiment
level at least. I know that all military records, even for the period of the
French regime, are kept at the National Archives at Ottawa and there is a
website dealing with military records.
