Subject: [Q-R] Lalonde website

Was just cruising Google and found this website for the Lalonde surname.
Quite interesting and explained for me finally why my ancestor Jean Lalonde
was married three times between Sept. and Nov. 1669 (one anulment before
that!). Unlucky in love and unlucky with the Iroquois as well, having been
killed by them in 1687.

Answer:
Those annulments would have been the nullification of marriage contracts
only, not annulments of marriages. The French word 'annulation' means
nullification (contracts), cancellation (order), as well as annulment
(marriage). A church marriage annulment would have taken years to obtain.
