Whileon the subject of changing names, some of my Marchesseault relatives
changed their names to Marshall, because their real name sounded French and
the French were discriminated against in the U. S. back in the late 1800s and
early 1900s. On my maternal side, my ggrandfather Varieur was known as Wait
and Wake. The Girards were known as Bennett. How they came by these names
is beyond my understanding. Thank Heaven they were buried under their
correct names except for ggrandmother Varieur who was buried as Elisabeth
Wake. Don't know which cemetery she is buried in and there is probably no
stone or marker - they were too poor to afford one. God Bless Jeannette
