ANY HELP FOR THIS COUSIN?:)me
Hello Miss Alice....
Saw our post on the dit names
Thought I would take a chance and see if you had any info
my last name is de Turenne
in the red Acadian registers I can find the first Turenne (sometimes
misspelled as Touraine,,I assume since they are pronounced the same)
as Pierre Blanchard dit Turenne
THEN you can cross reference
and find Pierre Turenne dit Blanchard
his family came from Poitiers
and they were soldiers
how do I find which one is the TRUE last name? Is going to the cemetary
in Poitiers the best way?
I have been told (as all Turennes seem to be told) that we are related
to the General Henri Turenne
he had no children...(unless there were some by a mistress..then of
course perhaps that could explain the dit) but he was responsible for
all his nieces and nephews
I once called Burkes Peerage in London
and the historian there told me that more than likelt that we were
indeed decended and part of the Bouillons and LaTours
he said the Turennes had specific features(probably because they married
their cousins..grin) and when he gave a listing...he described
me.........
I have seen old pictures and there is a strong resembalance between me
and those people who died so long ago
ANYWAY.......have you run across this name in your research? And what
would you think the best guess would be for hte use of the dit name in
this case.....
Thanks
Rene-Marie
