Does anyone have Benjamin Carter marry a Cassandra Allen or a Carter marry a
Allen,
My Carters end/start in Greene County,TN. I was told that Benjamin Carter
and Cassandra Allen were the parents of Caswell Carter b abt 1818sh d before
the 1850 Census.
Caswell's wife Barsheba Linebaugh. I have the Linebaugh back to Germany but
nothing on the Carter family.
In Greene Co, there are four Benjamin Carters, One of which is mine.
There is a Benjamin Carter who said to John Carter son. John is said to from
the Quaker Carter.
John is said to found of Carter Station, which is Quaker meeting house.
Janet

> JOSEPH ALLEN (c1730, PA; 1805, Shenandoah Co., VA) was the fourth
child of REUBEN ALLEN (1690/1700, Dartmouth, MA; 1741, Shenandoah Co., VA)
and MARY JACKSON (c1694/1703, NJ; bef 29 May 1751, Augusta Co., VA), who
were married bef 1719, Monmouth Co., NJ.
> JOSEPH ALLEN married 1761, Shenandoah Co., VA, to RUTH WHITE (28 Feb
1732, Shenandoah Co., VA; 15 Oct 1781, Shenandoah Co., VA), probably the
eldest child of seven, born to WILLIAM WHITE (c1712, MD; 1766, Shenandoah
Co., VA) and ROSE (surname unknown) (c1712, MD; 1756/1765, Frederick Co.,
VA). There is no evidence that RUTH WHITE was ever a Quaker, and the
marriage date to JOSEPH ALLEN can be deduced from actions his Meeting took
against him following his marriage in 1761. All of the children were
recorded as Quakers.
> JOSEPH ALLEN and RUTH WHITE had ten children, the second being JOSEPH
ALLEN, Jr. (27 Apr 1754, Shenandoah Co., VA; 2 Mar 1849, Caesars Creek MM,
Clinton Co., OH). Note that his death occurred NOT in 1809, but in 1849, at
the age of 94 years, 10 months, 5 days (Caesars Creek Birth and Death
Records), and was buried in the Caesars Creek Burial Ground.
> Following the death of RUTH WHITE, JOSEPH ALLEN (Sr.) married 9 Apr
1788 in Crooked Run MH, Warren Co., VA, to EUNICE (ROGERS) WALTON (1753,
Frederick Co., VA; died between date of Will, 8 Mar 1822, and first
disbursements by her son, Moses WALTON, 1825, Shenandoah Co., VA), daughter
of EDWARD ROGERS and HANNAH BORDEN [herself a d/o BENJAMIN BORDEN].
> EUNICE had married first (unknown date and place) to MOSES WALTON, Jr.
(d. 1782, Frederick Co., VA), son of MOSES WALTON, Sr. and unknown wife. By
MOSES WALTON, EUNICE ROGERS had seven children (number 5 being son MOSES
WALTON, who was executor of her Will, recorded 13 Mar 1832, Shenandoah Co.,
VA).
> JOSEPH ALLEN and EUNICE (ROGERS) WALTON ALLEN had 5 children (ANNA
ALLEN, [c1790-20 Sep 1842, Shenandoah Co., VA]; RHESA ALLEN, [25 May 1792-7
Dec 1865, Shenandoah Co., VA]; and three other daughters who died young,
whose names have not been found).
> Following the death in 1805 of JOSEPH ALLEN, Sr., EUNICE (ROGERS)
WALTON ALLEN returned to Virginia, and married 12 Jun 1811, in Smith's Creek
MH, Frederick Co., VA, to another Quaker, GOLDSMITH CHANDLEE (d. 3 Apr 1821,
Shenandoah Co., VA). Following his death, EUNICE lived out her final years
with her son, RHESA ALLEN, making her Will on 8 Mar 1822, as noted above.
> JOSEPH ALLEN, Jr. was only married ONCE, NOT TWICE. His marriage
occurred 14 Dec 1784, in Smith's Creek MH, by that date in Shenandoah Co.,
VA, to SUSANNAH BOND (27 Mar 1766, Montgomery Co., PA; c1813, Shenandoah
Co., VA), the eldest of ten children born to EDWARD BOND (4 Nov 1838,
Montgomery Co., PA; 23 May 1826, Clark Co., OH) and MARY FOX (c1743, PA; 14
Apr 1831, Clark Co., OH), who were married 7 Jun 1765, Abington MM,
Montgomery Co., PA. (I descend from their 4th child, BENJAMIN BOND, 23 May
1771, Montgomery Co., PA; 31 Dec 1857, Wash. Twp., Grant Co., IN, and wife
SUSANNAH ALLEN, c1775, Shenandoah Co., VA; 19 Sep 1855, Wash. Twp., Grant
Co., IN, also a daughter of JOSEPH ALLEN and RUTH WHITE!)
> The only known children of JOSEPH ALLEN, Jr. and SUSANNAH BOND were:
1. JOSEPH ALLEN
2. DEBORAH ALLEN
3. RUTH ALLEN
> I do not know the source for the estimated dates of birth offered by
Jerry Richmond, but I am fairly certain that they were born in Shenandoah
Co., NOT Frederick Co., VA. Davis and Dick give additional information (pp.
412-414) about a BENJAMIN ALLEN in Greene Co., OH, but were able to prove
no relationship to the JOSEPH ALLEN and SUSANNAH BOND, above. At no point
do they mention any connection with Tennessee for this family.
> I would welcome further correspondence on the ALLEN family off-line at
my email address, given below.
