Paul -
In this instance, the mentioning in 1814 of Joseph, Ruth, & Deborah as the
children of Joseph Allen, was most likely informational rather than indicating
that they were minors. It would appear that Joseph came out to Ohio with
his family in 1808-1809. He died 2 Mar 1809 and is buried in Caesars
Creek cem. The children remained in Ohio but the widow Eunice Rogers
[who first married Moses Walton in c1768] returned to Virginia where she
married 3rdly to Goldsmith Chandlee on 12 Jun 1811. Eventually the 3
children applied for and had their membership transferred to Ohio from
Hopewell after attending meetings in Ohio for some 5-6 years as "visitors".

Jerry,
You list Joseph III as being born about 1789 and being received in Ohio as a
child of Joseph in 1814 meaning that he was a minor at that time instead of
25 years old. These are some of the inconsistancies I have found that
probably result from multiple families of the same name in the same area and
at the same churches.
The Joseph (b. ca 1784) I am looking for had a daughter, Virginia Rose
Allen, born Nov. 2, 1806. Possible if he were born in 1789 but not likely
if he were born later. Especially as he had migrated to TN and this Joseph
(b. ca 1789) doesn't seem to have left his parents. Another possible twist
is that Joseph, Jr. had a brother Jackson who also had a son Joseph the
right age.
