Thanks Jerry for the information.

This Joseph has been my primary candidate and I have him in my database as
such but there were other Joseph Allen's and other Allen families in the
area. "The Russell Family in Virginia" by Anna Russell de Cognets
reportedly mentions Thomas and Abigail (Millar) Allen of Front Royal who
attended Crooked Run, MM and had a son the right age named Joseph. This
Thomas reportedly immigrated from Irland with his parents and siblings, some
of whom were at Hopewell. I haven't seen the book personally yet so I can't
quote from it but I have seen these families in other records as well. It
could be that the book is in error and somewhere in the past someone
mis-represented the origins of the family and it could be that there were
actually two different Allen families at Crooked Run. I have also seen a
GEDCOM file on Ancestry that lists a Joseph as being a son of John Allen of
Winchester, Va who also immigrated from Ireland. According to this GEDCOM,
John's son Reuben is the same Reuben found later in Cocke Co., TN. His
other children are also names found near Reuben in Cocke Co. being John,
Reuben, George and Joseph. No information on his parents and no sources was
given. The name Reuben in this last scenerio bothers me though because of
the Reuben in the line you mention which my notes have as going back to
George Allen (1568) of Sandwich, MA. It could also be that Reuben's
ancestry was mis-represented at some point in history.

There seems to be so many possibilities that, since I can't find primary
proof of one line, I am resorting to disproving as many as I can to narrow
my search. Its always easier to find fault and disprove something than it
is to prove it.
