Why NY and NJ? Migration trails. Most of the early Dutch came from NY, then
over to NJ and then into PA. En route they tended to drop the "Vans," and
"vanders." i.e. a Anna Mary Van Horn m Gerardus Beekman in1718 in Flatbush but
later moved to Raritan NJ by 1724. In 1745 another Gerandus Beekman m Ann Van
Horn. Earlier Willemtje Van Dyke (bp 1681) m ChristianVan Hoorn of Bensalem,
PA. Not all that far apart. Also a family named Horn who were fishermen in
Canarisie. All my Dutch ancestors seemed to head west, so just a guess.
