Judy, Betty, & List -

I have had occasion in connection with the Quaker Collection
to look at both the Stanley & Hiatt families. I have about 25
Jesse Stanleys in that database, so it is not a terribly simple
matter. Let me give you whatever perspective that I can provide:

[1] Jesse, son of Strangeman Stanley, b.29 Nov 1776, Guilford co,NC;
d.13 Mar 1856, Guilford co,NC; a birth-right member of New Garden MM,
born while Strangeman was a member of New Garden MM; was a
Charter Member when Dover MM set off from New Garden MM in 1815;
marr. in mtg, 20 Dec 1798, New Garden MM,NC to Lydia Gurley

[2] Jesse, son of Elijah Stanley, b.19 Jan 1771, Guilford co,NC;
d. 5 Aug 1843, Washington co,IN; a birth-right member of New Garden MM,
born while Elijah was member there; set off with parents in 1778 when
Deep River MM established;
marr. in civil ceremony, 28 Nov 1793, Guilford co,NC, to Huldah Coffin;
they removed to Indiana in 1814; Jesse died as member of Blue River MM
(Hicksite),IN

[3] Jesse, son of Shadrach Stanley, b.ca.1767, Hanover co,VA, mentioned as
received at New Garden MM,NC in 1785 on his mother's cert from
Cedar Creek MM,VA; a birth-right member, having managed to be born
during one of the periods when his father was a member;
disowned in 1793 for civil marr to Prudence ----; she was recreq in 1806 &
he was restored in 1809; his death unknown, wife died in 1841

[4] Jesse, son of Archelaus Stanley, b.24 Oct 1770, Hanover co,VA; came
with parents to New Garden MM,NC from Cedar Creek MM,VA in 1776;
set off with parents when Deep River MM established in 1778; a Charter
Member when Deep Creek MM set off from Deep River MM,NC in 1793;
marr. in mtg, 6 Dec 1787, Deep River MM, to Mary, dau of John Stanley Jr;
believed to be the individual disowned at Deep Creek MM in 1794 after
removal

[5] Jesse Stanley, b.ca.1776, probably the brother of Gravener Stanley;
a non-member, received on request at New Garden MM,NC in 1792;
marr. in mtg, 6 Jan 1802, New Garden MM,NC, to Ruth Hiatt; disowned
at New Garden MM in 1830 for re-marriage too soon after former wife's
death.

As one can see having the essential facts laid out, these are 5 different
individuals,
although there are a number of points of overlap in time & geography.

Judy,
Sorry so long in getting back to you but the illness and then death of the
daughter of my best friend and kept me busy trying to help her.

Really appreciated the info on the Stanley Family but I am still confused as
who the Jesse Stanley is who married Ruth Hiatt. Your records show Jesse,
son of Strangeman Stanley married to Lydia Gurley 20 Dec 1798 and had 16
children between 1799 & 1836 and also married Ruth Hiatt 6 Jun 1802 and
had 6 children between 1803 & 1825. The Jesse Stanley who married Ruth Hiatt
had to be another Jesse - could he be the son of Elijah Stanley & Hannah
Mills? He was born about the right time and in the right place.The Jesse who
married Ruth Hiatt was the same one who married Rachel Trueblood 15 Sep 1830
after Ruth's death.

Shadrack Stanley and Agnes Ladd also had s son named Jesse, born 1773, who
also could possibly be the right one. I have searched the Quaker records by
Hinshaw and can't find the answer.
