Subject: [Q-R] Diary of Anderson Monroe Allen
Date: Sun, 9 Jan 2000 21:44:14 -0500
The Randolph County Indiana list had this posting about a series of journals 1882 - 1885 that Anderson Allen began keeping when he was 15 years old. A descendant has indexed the people mentioned in the diary -- by year, and by "all".
Here's an excerpt from the introduction: Anderson was the first husband of Minnie Myrtle Brooks Allen Hoke. He courted and married her during the course of his diary. He was born near Graham, Orange Co. (now Alamance Co.) North Carolina on June 24, 1866, a son of Newton Allen and Asenith Allen, and died on September 25, 1896 at the age of 30 years, 3 months, and 1 day. Newton and Asenith Allen were Quakers and were 2nd cousins. Newton and his family, wife Asenith, son Anderson Monroe, and daughter Hannah Louise (Loula) came to Wayne Co., Indiana in 1872. Their Quaker church membership was transferred to the Springfield Monthly Meeting in Wayne Co., Indiana on May 4, 1872.
