The town of Krefeld on the lower Rhine came under the control of Prussia in
the early 1700's and it had a tolerant religious policy. The Mennonites took
refuge there and when the Brethren came after they were expelled from
Marienborn they benefited from the fact that Mennonites had been there before
them. Peter Becker led a Brethren group to the colonies from Krefeld and
there were continued contacts with Krefeld into the 18th century... John
Naas was the leader at Krefeld;came to the new World in 1733 and became a
leader in New Jersey and Penna.
