Dear Seth,
Here are the birth dates of the children of William and Prudence
(Lanckford) Clayton, as sent to me by Friends House, London (from the
Register Digests of Sussex and Surrey Quarterly Meeting):

1. William Claytonb. 1655 - 3 mo. - 11

2. Prudence Claytonb. 1657 - 8 mo. - 20

3. Joseph Claytonb. 1659 - 12 mo. - 12

4. Honour Claytonb. 1662 - 1 mo. - 18

5. Mary Claytonb. 1665 - 6 mo. - 29 (twin)

6. Elizabeth Claytonb. 1665 - 6 mo. - 29
d. 1665 - 7 mo. - 30

7. Hannah Claytonb. 1667 - 10 mo. - 12

The data on William Clayton (the 1st), referred to in the Boxgrove Parish
Register as William Clayton "Junr", was probably born about 1610. He was
md. 30 October 1631, at Boxgrove, to Joan Smith (no information on
parents). She was buried 27 April 1644 at Boxgrove ("wife of William
Clayton jun."). He married 2nd to Elizabeth Simmons on 4 Jan 1644/45 at
Boxgrove. William's will is dated 1 Feb 1658/59 (Chichester Consistory
Court Will Register 1653-1658, STC1/21B, p.59, at West Sussex Record
Office, Chichester). His 2nd wife and widow, Elizabeth, d. 6 Oct 1660,
and was buried at "Rumbolds Wyke steeple house yard"....meaning the church,
not the Quaker burial ground....they might not have had one yet by this
date. Rumboldswyke is a southern suburb of Chichester, and William and
Prudence lived there after their marriage until they left for America.
If you will send me your "snail mail" address, I will be happy to send you
a copy of my article which appeared in the annual proceedings of the
Descendants of Early Quakers, giving my theory on the ancestry back of
this.

Do you also have the Barkers (Nicholas and Hannah Allen Barker) of Holly
Springs MM, Randolph Co., NC?

Regards,
Marilyn Winton Misch
