Dear Oilivia:
As much as I can't offer you any advice as to how to find your husband's
birth family, I can offer my understanding in your struggle to find
relatives.
My husband was also adopted (but in England) and he did not find out until
he was 55 years old, and both his adoptive parents had passed away and he
was unable to ask anyone for information.
We have struggled for 6 years to find the papers and I think we might have
located them. We wait patiently for their arrival but are skeptical as to
whether or not they will contain any information pertaining to his birth
father. We did manage to find his birth mother some 4 years ago, albeit 6
months too late. We also found a half-brother, that wanted nothing to do
with us.
Having said that, be careful for what you wish for, it might not be the
happy reunion you hoped for. Our struggle to find birth relatives has been
very stressful not only on my husband but also on our relationship and other
family members who also realize they are not related to who they thought
they were. Please proceed with caution.
I do believe though that adoption records in some of the provinces are now
open to the adoptees. perhaps this is not the case in Quebec, I don't know
and will leave that up to other listers to answer.
I wish you all the best in your search and hope the outcome is a very
pleasant one.

Subject: [MONTREAL] Dorothy WEINBERG, 1951
Date: Fri, 10 Jun 2005 11:25:30 EDT
Dear List Members,
Allow me to introduce myself.
I'm Olivia REVITS, the widow of Alan Jay REVITS, born Montreal September
16,
1951 to Dorothy WEINBERG and her husband, who was not Jewish and whose name
I do not know.
Already parents of a daughter under 5, they were in the process of
separating when Dorothy conceived Alan. She could not afford to keep him,
so instead
put him up for adoption.
A New York couple, Lily COHEN and Murray REVITS adopted Alan the moment he
was born in a private home in Montreal; adoption was finalized in Montreal
court in 1952.
Alan died July 7, 2003, leaving 3 sons, 27, 24, and 22.
His adoption was sealed, the adoptive mother refused to discuss any more
than what is contained in this post, and in 2004 I hired private detectives
from
the world famous Florida-based company, but even they failed to find so
much
as a shred of information leading to Dorothy.
Won't some kind soul come forward with information that could help us find
his sons' biological Mother and relatives? They are bereft of family.
Please help our family. Thanks in advance for anything big or small.
Sincerely,
Olivia Revits
