I'm looking for information about John Rivers who was born in Montreal
(according to the family "legends"). He immigrated to the US in 1860 - I
know that from the 1900 Census which also stated that he was English
Speaking born Canadian. He was married in 1862 in Michigan to Frances Jane
Munson. Unfortunately, his marriage record does not state who his parents
were. He died in Michigan in 1902.

Depending on which census I look at, the marriage record, and the
gravestone, John was born anywhere from 1821 to 1826, but most probably in
1823 (we have two records that actually agree on that year).

How can I find out his birth year and who his parents were?
